Since the U.S. Supreme Court legalized
unrestricted abortion on January 22, 1973, there would follow a mass butchering of the unborn—36.5 million in fact for the years 1973 through 1996 (see www.roevwade.org/rvw1.html). The blood shed in this hostile war of the womb dwarf’s
all the blood shed in the major wars of recent history. For example, consider the following stats (http://www.electrosnap.com/abortion/stats/):
- Revolutionary War – 4,435 deaths
- Civil War – 498,332 deaths
- WW1 – 116,708 deaths
- WW2 – 407,316 deaths
- Korean War – 25,604 deaths
- Vietnam War – 58,168
- ABORTION WAR– 36,500,000 DEATHS (1973-1996). Another 3.5 million unborn children would be heartlessly slaughtered
from the years 1997-2000. This holocaust continues every year!
I wonder how many of our founding
fathers would have thought that America would progress
so much over the years to actually provide a sanctuary for killing the innocent in the “medical profession.” What
would they have said today about the soullessness of this nation which used to mean “In God We Trust.” How many
of them would have ever envisioned that it would be safer to be on a battle field than in a mother’s womb! Over 40 million
abortions. . .over 40 million of the truly innocent of the human race have been put to death in this nation alone! These stats
do not take in all the other millions of babies butchered in other nations to the god of “choice.”
That abortion is a compacted transgression
of sin upon sin is evident from the fact that 78% of women having abortions are unmarried (see http://www.religioustolerance.org/abo_fact2.htm). The previous mentioned site also says, “Abortions are relatively rare among married women. . .”
and “about 1% of all abortions are sought because of abusive sexual act.” So,
the overwhelming amount of abortions occur on women who are not married and only one percent of abortions are related to sexual
abuse (i.e., rape). . . there is the proof that ungodliness spawns more ungodliness and that the majority of women who choose
to kill the unborn also previously chose to engage in sexual activity outside of marriage. They think they are mature enough
to have sexual relations outside of a marital commitment. They essentially are supposedly mature enough to have sexual relations
but not mature enough to commit or be hindered with a creation of life. Sexuality is only permitted in marriage according
to the One who created male and female for marriage. Fornicators and adulterers practice sex outside of God’s law and
outside of true marital commitment.
“Marriage is honorable
among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge” (Heb. 13:4)
The effects of the decision to
abort the unborn are also negative for women in general. Abortion has been shown to coincide with an increased risk of breast
cancer and future miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies and premature birth. Other risks involve hemorrhaging, cardiac arrest,
infection, death etc. There are also emotional effects of mental illness, guilt, substance abuse, sleep disturbance and even
suicide. The web site, www.bfl.org reports:
One study found that a teenager is ten times more likely to attempt suicide if she has had an abortion in the last
six months than a teenage girl who has not. Another study of women suffering post-abortion trauma found that 60 percent had
suicidal thoughts, 28 percent had attempted suicide, and 18 percent had tried more than once, sometimes years after their
abortions. (Garfinkel et al, "Stress, depression and suicide: A study of adolescents in Minnesota," University of Minnesota
Extension Service, 1986; Reardon, "A survey of psychological reactions," The Elliot Institute, 1987)
Indeed, the old proverb rings
so true today regarding this issue:
“There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death” (Prov. 16:25).
If men and women would get back
to placing God’s “choice” within their choice they would save themselves much sorrow and regret. The more
we ride this chariot of self-will, the more we will drive into depravity where the innocent are run over helplessly by the
choices of the wicked, and the guilty will perish with tormenting flames in hell. We desperately need to bolster a roadblock
to the immoral path that our society is traveling. We need to continue to raise our voice of opposition to the wicked and
defend the needy.
“They have grown fat, they are sleek; Yes, they surpass the deeds of the wicked; They do not plead the cause,
The cause of the fatherless; Yet they prosper, And the right of the needy they do not defend” (Jer. 5:28).
That a medical profession is
growing fat from this “legalized” slaughter of the innocent is without question. That it is enticing the wrath
of God is equally without debate.
Proverbs 6:16-19, “These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying
tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false
witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.”
Note that God hates hands that
shed innocent blood and a heart that devises evil plans. What is more evil than men making contraptions and procedures for
ruthlessly ripping and destroying a child’s life within a mother’s womb? Some would question whether it is a child
or not. A pregnant woman is not one person but one with child. Her choice to abort is not only about her body, but also that of a child’s life. Note:
“As you do not know what is the way of the wind, Or how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child,
So you do not know the works of God who makes everything” (Eccl. 11:5).
When God looks down from heaven
on a pregnant woman, He sees one who is “with child.” That this child is “alive” is made evident from
Job 3:11,
“Why did I not die at birth? Why did I not perish when I came from the womb?”
For Job to ask why he didn’t
die at birth shows that he was alive at birth. You cannot die unless you are alive!
This is also shown from Exodus
21:22-23:
"If men fight, and hurt a woman with child, so that she gives birth prematurely, yet no harm follows, he shall surely
be punished accordingly as the woman’s husband imposes on him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. But if any
harm follows, then you shall give life for life.”
The woman is hurt, but the emphasis
in this passage is regarding any harm to the one she is carrying. If harm follows, or the child dies, then life for life is
the penalty. Such is positive proof that the child within the womb is alive. It is not a choice
that is at stake, but a living child.
Another passage to consider
is Psalm 139:13-16:
“For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am
fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden
from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my
substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none
of them.”
David refers to himself while
in the womb. A person cannot refer to himself without referring to a person. Therefore, a person is in a pregnant woman’s
womb.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet
to the nations” (Jer. 1:5).
What if Jeremiah’s mother
had exercised the choice to abort him? She would have aborted the life of one God knew before he was formed in the womb and
one who was set apart for divine service before birth.
We submit these truths, whether
observed facts of science and history or readable truths of God’s unchanging word for the defense of the unborn. We
lament when soldiers die in war, when friends and family die and when children pass on before us. As a nation, we need to
mourn over the countless millions who were conceived in darkness yet were denied nature’s journey from the womb by a
pitiful decision of another. Never will they experience that first breath of life outside their mother’s womb. Never
will they be able to discover their hands, be nurtured by a mother and loved by a father. Never will they be able to take
that first step, eat that first meal, laugh that first laugh, smell that first flower or play in that first park. Never will
they be able to grow and see the pleasant and beautiful things in life: the sunrise and sunset, the high mountains, the soothing
streams. Never will they be able to walk the shores of the oceans, walk the grassy fields and meadows or smell the scent of
a rose in bloom. Never will they be able to feel the drop of rain that splatters on their face from its heavenly descent,
hear the howl of wind or touch the cold of snow. Never will they be able to experience loving another as we do in this life
or to be loved by another. It was “lovelessness” that ended their life in the womb. All of these physical and
emotional encounters have been torn away from their little lives by the choice of another. The only comfort we can find is
that they will be comforted by the One who formed and knew them in the womb. As for those who shed innocent blood, little
comfort can come their way. Their conscience will endlessly walk the darkened but well traveled halls of condemnation and
regret knowing that the life they were graciously given was used to selfishly terminate the life of another. God hates what
they have done, but He hates all sin. Only if we repent and meet Him on His grounds for salvation can we be forgiven (Rom.
5:9, 10; 6:3, 4; Mk. 16:16; Acts 2:38). Will you abort the sin of abortion? Will you begin to defend the unborn and raise
your voice for those who cannot speak?
